Allergy Help: Advice from Cinergy Health

While most of us spend the majority of our time indoors, there are still many allergies that can potentially bother us. Here, Cinergy Health shares key advice from the American Academy of Allergy Asthma & Immunology and from WebMD for dealing with common indoor allergens.

For dust allergies, make sure that all pillows, mattresses and box springs have zippered fabric bags to keep allergens away. Wash your bed linens in hot water (130 degrees or hotter) every one or two weeks. And remove carpeting whenever possible from your home.

To deal with pet dander, try to keep your pet living outdoors and don’t allow pets to be in your bedroom or in the bedroom of a family member with allergies. If the allergies in the home are really bad, consider getting rid of any warm-blooded pets or not getting them in the first place!

For mold, make sure to clean any visible mold with a solution of 5% bleach and a small amount of detergent. Use a dehumidifier to lower the humidity in damp areas of the home.
